The Production Manager reports to the Category Manager of Production and works closely with other Product Division personnel, including Creative Development, Planning, Buying, Inventory Control, Design, Merchandising, Technical, Quality Assurance and Production.
The Production Manager assists in managing and developing a balanced portfolio of supply chain partners who can deliver on Aritzia’s business objectives. The Production Manager also applies proven communication, creativity, industry knowledge, business acumen and leaderships skills to enhance the goals of the department.
Key responsibilities of the Production Manager will include the following:
1.0 DEPARTMENT MANAGEMENT
• Business Management
• Ensuring brand Line Plans are updated with all information regarding the HOW MUCH
• Owning production files for the department
• Supporting preparation for Checkpoint Meetings
• People Management
• Supporting the Category Manager and Director in managing training and onboarding of new hires
• Leading by example using the How We Work and How We Lead principles across the department
2.0 MANUFACTORING ALLOCATION
• Updating available monthly capacity at vendors, in partnership with Sourcing
• Partnering with Sourcing to collect seasonal capacity forecasts to vendors, and passing to Category Managers to manage
• Presenting recommendations to Category Managers for allocations, based on capacity and vendor capabilities
3.0 PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT
• Supporting cross-functional brand team(s) through the development process to deliver the best quality product
• Vetting of bulk and garment test reports and flagging failures to appropriate Production Manager
4.0 TIME AND ALLOCATION MANAGEMENT
• Collecting and vetting WIP reports from the vendors and reviewing with Production Managers
• Ensuring all submit comments are passed to vendors in a timely manner
• Chasing vendors on outstanding submits
5.0 COSTING
• Gathering and entering all cost information in the Line Plans and SAP
6.0 PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT
• Supporting the Production team in execution of contingency and action plans during the production process
• Supporting SAP updates
Additional duties and responsibilities may be added or modified as required throughout the course of your employment.
The Production Manager will possess the following qualifications:
• Completion of a university degree or college diploma in engineering, business administration, textile manufacturing, fashion merchandising or other related field
• 2+ years’ sourcing, allocation, planning, production, product development experience with a fashion apparel retail organization
• Strong understanding of and experience with garment and factory manufacturing/production methods, construction and fabrication, and sourcing
• Experience with managing product throughout its lifecycle (from concept to production to final product)
• Experience with costing, negotiation and sourcing strategies
• Experience in cost negotiations with domestic and international vendors/manufacturers
• Experience with performing cost and sales analyses, and preparing related reports; evaluating cost and quality of goods to ensure margin goals
• Ability to recognize potential production and material issues (i.e., order and delivery management, contingency planning)
• Management skills and proven ability to work effectively with cross functional/departmental partners and teams (i.e., Sourcing, Planning, and Technical design teams)
• Proven leadership abilities and excellent interpersonal and communication skills – both verbal and written
• Excellent organizational and time management skills with ability to prioritize and manage deadlines
• Ability and willingness to travel internationally
