Job Description / Duties

The Buying and Design department works at the centre of the gear universe. They scour the world for innovative gear. And they work in-house to design thoughtful, elegant pieces that are bang-on for a running route, uptrack, or training session.

What is the first thing you notice when you walk into a store?…COLOUR! As a Colourist, you’ll be responsible for researching trends, seeking colour inspiration, and managing the lab dip process from development to production through the use of the spectrophotometer.

You work with an inclusive, hands-on, collaborative group that connects people with quality products to encourage active outdoor lives. You’ll always be learning, and there’s a good chance your co-workers will inspire you to try something new, like riding in a Fondo, bouldering or paddleboarding.

What you do:

Assisting in the lab dip process from submission through approval stage
Corresponding with mills
Operating the spectrophotometer
Data Maintenance
Preparing Seasonal Colour Palettes
Maintaining Colour Library and Colour Bible
Providing general assistance to the Colour Team and Design Team as needed

Qualifications / Required Skills

What you bring:

Completion of post-secondary diploma in a related discipline (i.e. Fashion Design)
1-3 years of colour developing experience preferably in the retail and/or outdoor industry
You live in colour, and have a deep understanding of colour trends, colour mixing, colour compatibility, and colour placement
Knowledge of product design and development process
Familiarity with product manufacturing processes including: materials/fabrics; plastics; pigments
Demonstrated wizardry with Photoshop and Illustrator
Great communication – you listen first, then, share knowledge. This goes for both speaking and writing
Strong organization skills a good team player attitude, even when things get a little crazy. But you’re just as comfortable working solo.
You can handle projects, lots of projects, at the same time, while keeping cool.
A hard-working attitude. You deliver on what you commit to do, even when no one is watching.
You’re stoked on something. Maybe you log miles in your sleep, build trails, crave water, organize hut trips, or ride to work.

Bonus points if you…

Are a Mad Scientist with a knowledge of materials and the chemistry involved in dyeing them
Have a plethora of colour name suggestions ready for future colour palettes
Know what a spectrophotometer is…and how to use it
Dream in colour
