As a member of the Styling Department, you will be part of the team responsible for bringing the Product and Marketing vision to life through styling. As a Senior Stylist, Styling you will be responsible for building beautiful outfits for our brands and ensure an elevated and consistent styling aesthetic across all channels.
1. STYLING VISION
To establish the seasonal styling strategy for each unique brand.
a) Brand Vision – For the brand that you’re responsible for, understand the Brand Vision established by the creative designers seasonally.
b) Campaign Strategy – For campaigns that are relevant to your brand, understand the strategy established by Marketing.
c) External Styling Landscape – Understand the external styling landscape and execute marketplace research to identify key styling trends for your brand.
d) Internal Styling Assessment – Support in evaluating your brand’s past performance based on business and creative analysis to identify styling opportunities.
e) Creative Vision – Envision and define the inspiration and references for styling your brand and the relevant collections.
2. WARDROBING
To assemble outfits.
a) Fit – Establish your brand’s vision for fit (i.e., how the garment fits the body) and ensure each look is styled as per the vision.
b) Proportion – Establish your Brand’s vision for proportion (i.e., what the garment is paired with) and ensure each look is styled as per the vision.
c) Layering – Establish your brand’s vision for layering (i.e., what is put under or over the garment), and ensure each look is styled as per the vision.
3. DETAILING
To refine outfits.
a) Tucking – Establish your brand’s vision for tucking, and ensure each look is styled as per the vision.
b) Rolling – Establish your brand’s vision for rolling, and ensure each look is styled as per the vision.
c) Pinning – Establish your brand’s vision for pinning, and ensure each look is styled as per the vision.
d) Cuffing – Establish your brand’s vision for cuffing, and ensure each look is styled as per the vision.
e) Fastening – Establish your brand’s vision for fastening, and ensure each look is styled as per the vision.
4. ACCESSORIZING
To elevate outfits.
a) Footwear – Establish your brand’s vision for footwear (e.g., shoes, socks, hosiery), propose footwear purchases, and ensure each look is styled as per the vision.
b) Headwear – Establish your brand’s vision for headwear (e.g., hats, toques), if applicable, and ensure each look is styled as per the vision.
c) Neckwear – Establish your brand’s vision for neckwear (e.g., scarfs, shawls), if applicable, and ensure each look is styled as per the vision.
d) Handwear – Establish your brand’s vision for handwear (e.g., mitts, gloves), if applicable, and ensure each look is styled as per the vision.
e) Jewelry – Establish your brand’s vision for jewelry, propose jewelry purchases, and ensure each look is styled as per the vision.
f) Bags – Establish your brand’s vision for bags, if applicable, and ensure each look is styled as per the vision.
g) Belts –Establish your brand’s vision for belts, if applicable, and ensure each look is styled as per the vision.
5. TECHNICAL STYLING
To ensure the intended purpose of each garment is considered and styled to showcase the product.
a) Item Visibility – Style the outfit to ensure the primary item is visible and highlighted within the look.
b) Seasonality – Style the outfit to ensure the complete look is seasonally appropriate.
c) Functionality – Style the outfit to ensure the features and functions are highlighted within the outfit.
d) Balance – Style outfits to ensure a balance of colours and products are featured across the shoot.
Throughout the course of employment, additional duties and responsibilities may be amended as required.
The Senior Stylist will possess the following qualifications:
• Diploma or certificate in design or design related field
• 3+ years’ of fashion styling and/or art direction experience working for a fashion apparel retailer
• Experience working in-house at a global luxury women’s fashion brand
• Experience dealing with models, photographers, and studios
• Prior experience providing styling direction on fashion campaigns for a fashion apparel retailer or within the fashion industry
• Excellent sense of style and high fashion aesthetics
• Proven ability to translate vision to execution
• Knowledge of fashion forecasting and trends
• Retail experience an asset
• Proven ability to work cross-functionally with different departmental teams
• Excellent organizational, planning and time management skills with a high level of attention to detail
• Alignment and approval of creative portfolio against company aesthetic
