Job Description / Duties

Role: Director, Sourcing (NOC 0113)
Salary: $150,000 - $215,000/year and Benefits (Extended Health, Dental, Vision, Disability, Life Insurance) + may be eligible for bonuses and salary increases, if applicable
Hours: 45 hours/week, Full-time, Permanent
Location of work: Aritzia Support Office (#118-611 Alexander St. Vancouver, BC, V6A 1E1)
Number of positions: 1

The Director, Sourcing, plays a pivotal role in determining our sourcing strategy, analyzing our needs, introducing new suppliers, assessing them, formalizing the partnership and managing the relationship once they are on board.

1. SUPPLIER STRATEGY
To strategically plan a diversified portfolio of suppliers
a) Quality – Lead the team to set the standards of quality that we will measure potential and current suppliers against
b) Lead Time – Lead the team to set the standards of lead time expectations that we will measure potential and current suppliers against
c) Costing – Lead the team to set the standards of costing that we will measure potential and current suppliers against
d) Country of Origin – Lead the team to determine and manage to the target global composition of our suppliers network
e) Profile – Lead the team to identify the optimal supplier profile that we will use to source suppliers
f) Sustainability – Lead the team to set the standards of sustainability that we will measure potential and current suppliers against

2. NEEDS ANALYSIS
To determine capabilities required to deliver on our product strategy across product types including
3. SEARCH
To identify the appropriate supplier to fill our needs
a) Finished Goods – Lead the team to identify the top suppliers based on finish good type
b) Fabric – Lead the team to identify the top suppliers based on fabric type
c) Trim – Lead the team to identify the top suppliers based on trim type
d) Capability – Lead the team to identify the top suppliers based on capability required for the materials or style
e) Country – Lead the team to identify top suppliers across in specific countries

4. INTRODUCTION
To initiate contact and impress the supplier on the opportunity to work with Aritzia
a) Initial Contact - Lead the team to initiate contact and introduce Aritzia with potential suppliers
b) Presentation – Lead the team to prepare and deliver an overview of Aritzia’s vision, mission, and values to potential suppliers
c) Costing – Lead the team to gather facts on the supplier’s costing in order to understand suitability potential
d) Sampling – Lead the team to attain samples of supplier’s top product to gather facts on quality and understand suitability potential
e) Visit – Lead the team to visit potential suppliers in their locations to build relationships and gather facts on suitability
f) Hosting – Lead the team to host potential suppliers at Aritzia to build relationships and impress them on the opportunity of working with us

5. ASSESSMENT
To evaluate the supplier’s suitability for Aritzia
a) Quality – Lead the team to evaluate the supplier’s product quality to ensure that it means Aritzia’s standards
b) Lead Time – Lead the team to evaluate the supplier’s lead time capabilities to ensure that they can meet our product lifecycle requirements
c) Costing – Lead the team to evaluate the supplier’s costing breakdown to ensure that we can achieve required value and margin
d) Country of Origin – Lead the team to evaluate the supplier’s geographic location to ensure that it achieves target global composition of supplier network
e) Profile – Lead the team to evaluate the supplier’s profile to ensure that it achieves standards set out in supplier strategy
f) Sustainability – Lead the team to evaluate the supplier’s performance on sustainability to ensure that it meets or exceeds our standards

6. FORMALIZATION
To finalize the partnership
a) Non-Disclosure Agreement – Lead the team to deliver non-disclosure agreement to the supplier
b) Payment Terms – Lead the team to secure optimal payment terms with the supplier through effective negotiation
c) Sustainability Terms – Lead the team to set up sustainability practice agreements with the supplier
d) Product Integrity Terms – Lead the team to set up product integrity practice agreements with the supplier
e) Time & Action Plan – Lead the team to set up the time and action plan for product development with the supplier
f) System Set Up – Lead the team to set up required supplier information in the Product Lifecycle Management system and other required systems
g) Onboarding Plan – Lead the team to set up and communicate the onboarding plan

7. SUPPLIER MANAGEMENT
To facilitate the supplier’s onboarding and continuously monitor the ongoing relationship
a) Onboarding - Lead the team to effectively onboard the supplier to set them up for optimal performance as soon as possible
b) Health Check & Maintenance – Lead the team to regularly check on the supplier relationships to ensure that we are partnering with them to their full capability
c) Strategic Assessment – Lead the team to continuously evaluate supplier’s fit and delivery against our needs

8. DEPARTMENT MANAGEMENT
Work with the appropriate Business Support partners to seamlessly lead the day-to-day function of the department in support of corporate objectives, while enabling progressive career development and an incredible employee experience
a) People Management – Lead and advance our people, maximizing their results through the 10 areas: Planning, Hiring, Onboarding, Evaluating, Developing, Engaging, Scheduling, Compensating, Transitioning, and Relating
b) Operations Management – Lead the day-to-day department priorities and net new initiatives by championing quality output, encouraging timely results, implementing a methodical approach, and setting up clear accountability across the team
c) Technology Management – Set the standard for high quality data management, ensure current systems are maintained and continuously improved, and identify, evaluate, and drive opportunities to secure future investments in technology
d) Finance Management – Lead the team to proactively maximize the department's financial performance, strategically leading opportunities to drive revenue growth and capitalize on smart spending opportunities

Qualifications / Required Skills

The Director, Sourcing will possess the following qualifications:

• Completion of bachelor degree in engineering, business administration, or a related field
• 8+ years’ experience in global apparel manufacturing, sourcing, and production with a fashion apparel retailer
• Minimum 5 years of managerial experience overseeing and supervising an apparel production team; must have second level management experience (i.e., supervising manager(s) who have direct reports)
• Sourcing or Production experience with knit or woven fabrics/garments
• Extensive knowledge of and experience with garment manufacturing/production/sourcing methods, construction, trims and fabrication
• Strong global sourcing and production knowledge; and extensive understanding of the sourcing and production cycle
• Extensive experience with cost negotiations with domestic and international vendors
• Experience working at a luxury brand preferred
• Experience managing large budgets with fiscal leadership, understanding global cost structures, performing cost and margin analyses and preparing related reports
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ERP system
• Strong management skills and proven ability to work effectively with cross functional/departmental partners and teams
• Proven leadership abilities and excellent interpersonal and communication skills – both verbal and written
• Excellent organizational and time management skills with ability to prioritize and manage
• Ability and willingness to travel internationally
