Job Description / Duties

Role: Senior Manager, Denim Production (NOC 0911)
Salary: $100,000 – $140,000/year and Benefits (Extended Health, Dental, Vision, Disability, Life Insurance) + may be eligible for bonuses and salary increases, if applicable
Position: 45 hours/week, Permanent
Location of work: Aritzia Support Office (#118-611 Alexander St. Vancouver, BC, V6A 1E1)

As the Senior Manager, Denim Production, you will lead and motivate the team responsible for achieving Aritzia’s objectives for quality products, timely delivery and competitive costing. You will play a pivotal role in leading the delivery of Design’s vision for denim, exemplifying the guiding principles of accurate allocation, informed negotiation, and flawless execution.

1. PRODUCTION STRATEGY
To optimize our supplier’s capabilities with our product strategy
a) Supplier Assessment – Lead use of Aritzia frameworks, historic data, and industry information to evaluate denim suppliers and ensure their product offering meets Aritzia’s needs prior to onboarding the supplier
b) Product Allocation – Review and finalize seasonal allocation plan based on vendor capabilities, capacity and vendor score card
c) Supplier Management – Lead supplier relationship development and ongoing management to enable understanding of supplier expertise and adjust vendor strategy accordingly in order to maximize supplier competitive advantage
d) Sustainability – Lead partnerships with suppliers to ensure Aritzia sustainability goals and objectives are met from a social and environmental perspective

2. PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT
To develop high quality product that fulfills the design vision
a) Development Samples – Lead the successful execution of denim mock-ups, wash samples and dye samples that deliver on design’s intent
b) Product Testing – Partner with the Product Integrity team to ensure successful denim supplier completion of test reports
c) Product Element Options – Lead the identification of commercially viable options for product elements including fabric, construction, trims and washes based on quality, time to production and cost, ensuring clear communication of approved elements

3. LEAD-TIME MANAGEMENT
To secure and deliver on optimal production lead-times
a) Purchase Order Management – Manage the release, review and vetting of purchase orders throughout the production lifecycle, ensuring PO’s are kept up to date as the product or situation changes
b) Raw Materials Positioning – Work internally with Buying and externally with raw materials suppliers to meet production deadlines and optimize speed to market, without impacting the product quality
c) Cut & Make – Work with finished good suppliers to meet product calendar deadlines and optimize speed to market, striving for improvements in lead-time without impacting the product quality
d) Performance Management – Lead the identification of opportunities for supplier performance improvement and ensure suppliers execute on corrective action plans

4. COSTING
To effectively negotiate to maximize our margin without compromising quality or lead-time
a) Negotiation – Drive analysis of product costs and negotiate the best price for assigned styles to achieve financial targets
b) Raw Materials – Drive the vetting and optimization of raw material agreements including fabric, yields, componentry and minimums, taking into account consumption of fabric per garment, and partnering with the Fabric & Trim team to optimize the cost of materials
c) Labour – Lead the optimization of labour costs taking into account cut & make, processing, applied graphics, and rates and exchanges, leveraging efficiencies for high-volume or carry-over production
d) Initial Markup – Work with suppliers to maximize initial mark-up on orders, collaborating cross-functionally with the Merchant department as they determine retail price
e) Surcharge – Work with suppliers to minimize surcharges as part of supplier agreements, review and approve surcharges as required
f) Duty & Trade Benefits – Drive analysis of duty and trade agreements, ensuring the team stays up to date on new trade agreements and enabling flexibility in allocation strategy to take advantage of new agreements to minimize the cost of duty and trade tariffs
g) Transportation Costs – Work with suppliers to minimize the cost and timeline of transportation from Raw Materials Suppliers to Finished Goods Suppliers, and from Finished Goods Suppliers to Freight Forwarders

5. PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT
To ensure the high quality, timely, and cost-effective delivery of all fabric, trims and finished goods once they are in production
a) Quality – Lead the identification of potential execution risks to ensure successful mass production of agreed prototypes that are in line with Aritzia standards
b) Lead-time – Drive towards meeting product calendar deadlines and optimize speed to market, ensuring that production is proceeding on schedule and according to plan without impacting the product quality
c) Cost – Lead the management of ongoing supplier costs in order to maximize margins and minimize lead-time without compromising quality

6. DEPARTMENT MANAGEMENT
Work with the appropriate Business Support partners to seamlessly lead the day-to-day function of the department in support of corporate objectives, while enabling progressive career development and an incredible employee experience
a) People Management – Manage our people, maximizing their results through the 10 areas: Planning, Hiring, Onboarding, Evaluating, Developing, Engaging, Scheduling, Compensating, Transitioning, and Relating
b) Operations Management – Manage the day-to-day department priorities by ensuring quality output, timely results, a methodical approach, and clear accountability across the team
c) Technology Management – Validate high quality data management, ensure current systems are used appropriately, and identify opportunities for technology innovations to advance the business
d) Finance Management – Hold the team accountable to maximize the department's financial performance, driving revenue generating activities and minimize controllable expenses
e) Analytics Management – Leverage reporting to identify opportunities and improve the expected results of the department

Qualifications / Required Skills

The Senior Manager, Denim Production will possess the following qualifications:
• Completion of a 2-year diploma or higher in engineering, business administration, or a related field
• 5+ years of industry experience in women’s apparel design
• 5+ years’ experience in women’s specific denim design
• Experience working for a fashion apparel retailer
• Experience supervising or leading teams
• Extensive knowledge of and experience with garment manufacturing/production/sourcing methods, construction, trims and fabrication
• Previous experience with broad range of women’s fashion: e.g., denim products, junior, casual, contemporary and ready-to-wear
• Experience with cost negotiations with domestic and international vendors
• Expertise with Microsoft Office and Excel
• Excellent communication & presentation skills – written and verbal
• Proven ability to work effectively with cross functional/departmental partners and teams
• Excellent time management skills, planning and organizational skills, problem solving skills
