Job Description / Duties

Role: Designer (NOC 5243)
Salary: $80,000 - $115,000 /year and Benefits (Extended Health, Dental, Vision, Disability, Life Insurance) + may be eligible for bonuses and salary increases, if applicable
Hours: 45 hours/week, Permanent
Location of work: Aritzia Support Office (#118-611 Alexander St. Vancouver, BC, V6A 1E1)

The Designer's objective is to support in the execution of the brand vision through a keen eye for identifying trends that our customer will love. This individual supports the Creative Director in curating the seasonal strategy through detailed research, design, and development of select styles. This role will report to the Sr. Manager Creative Management and will ensure products are developed in line with Aritzia’s quality philosophy of “what, when, how much”, in that order.

1. Brand Vision
• Responsible for understanding the external aspirational landscape based on target customer, muse and ethos
• Responsible for understanding and staying current with the brand house target customer, muse and ethos
• Responsible for the creation of all relevant brand materials that communicate the seasonal brand vision

2. Trend Landscape
• Responsible for seasonal research of the aspirational landscape across all applicable product elements
• Responsible for identifying seasonal macro trends across all applicable product elements
• Responsible for identifying seasonal macro trends that align with the brand ethos

3. Creative Line Concept
• Support in the creative expression of the brand seasonal theme
• Responsible for the curation of seasonal fabric, colour, print and graphic concepts
• Support in the identification of the colour palette, line colour ups, and seasonal lab dip requests
• Executes franchise development opportunities in carryover styles and fabrics
• Responsible for selecting aspirational reference garments for the seasonal collection for Creative Line Plan Strategy

4. Style Development
• Responsible for the identification of marketplace and aspirational reference garments (i.e. marketplace, aspiration, CO) for each style being proposed for the seasonal collection
• Responsible for sketching styles that support the Creative Directors vision
• Support in the preparation for and the execution of the First Proto meetings
• Support in prototype fittings for select styles

5. Promote the Brand
• Provide creative art direction input to Marketing and articulating the design vision in terms of theme, mood, venue, model
• Review and analyze the prior season’s performance in order to incorporate key learnings into next seasons strategy
• Review and understand weekly sales reports to determine success of the designs
• Study sales, returns data and customer feedback and provide suggestions to improve the fit quality and styling of products

6. Department Responsibilities
• Ensure cross departmental communications and efficiencies
• Prepare for and participate in the weekly Department meeting
• Prepare for and attend their weekly brand meeting (s)
• Prepare for and attend all MC Product checkpoints
• Support in ensuring all calendar deadlines are met
• Ensure Creative Designs fields in their brands line plans are accurate and up to date

Qualifications / Required Skills

The Designer will possess the following qualifications:

• Completion of a 2-year diploma or higher in Fashion or Textile Design required
• 3 – 5 years of women’s apparel design experience working for a vertically integrated fashion apparel retailer
• Previous experience with broad range of women’s fashion: e.g., junior, active wear, contemporary and ready-to-wear
• Demonstrated technical ability in apparel construction in all types of fabrics and trims, fit and patterns, tailoring and dyeing techniques
• Demonstrated understanding of and experience sourcing and selecting wide range of fabrics and trims
• Prior experience creating technical drawings and flats, line specification sheets and technical PR packages
• Strong technical drawing, sketching and rendering skills
• Excellent sense of style, knowledge of fashion forecasting and trend analysis, keen eye for global trends, colours, fabrics and details
• Comprehensive understanding of target market’s aesthetic (15-35 year old women)
• Expertise with MS Office and Adobe Creative Suite (Design, Illustrator and Photoshop)
• Excellent communication & presentation skills – written and verbal
• Proven ability to work effectively with cross functional/departmental partners and teams
• Excellent time management skills, planning and organizational skills, problem solving skills
