Job Description / Duties

Job Title: Technical Designer
Terms of Employment: Full-time, permanent
Compensation: $23.08 per hour; 35 hours per week; 10 days of paid vacation per year after one full year of employment

Position Overview:
To create and maintain flat sketches and tech packs. Produce, fit and maintain patterns from a flat sketch through all levels of prototypes; PP samples to bulk production. Work closely with manufactory team to build prototypes and high standard of construction. Adhere to schedules and production calendar

Key Responsibilities:
• Leading the Design team to fully understand style construction details, styling intent and proportions.
• Ensure Quality and Production Standards met and engineered to Company’s standard.
• Create prototype/production size charts
• Create and maintain costing sheet to help sales team create invoice.
• Create detailed specification of garment for bid submission
• Working with bid department closely to make sure samples are made is compliant to all the aspects for submission with Tender / Bids
• Arrange fittings of garments to the satisfaction of Outdoor Outfits customers
• Create and maintain fully detailed flat sketches with Adobe Illustrator and Core Draw
• Produce and maintain complete detailed tech packs and cutting sheets
• Work closely with sample makers to ensure complete understanding of the construction and finished details of garments.
• Create and maintain patterns with PAD system
• Grading patterns in Pad system into the custom size charts.
• Review updates or improvements to the patterns as needed prior to going into production
• Provide feedback and solutions to the customer on construction challenges
• Create patterns to Production; Marker Making Department in the Pad system
• Responsible to work with local contractor factories and follow up on order status and resolve any issues that arise during production.
• Work with all overseas productions factories to ensure they correctly understand the construction and finished details of the garment
• Create QC reports.
• Prepare specimens to lab testing service provide to finish specific tests.
• Work closely with UL engineer to get annual certification of NFPA 1999 and NFPA 1975
• Create and maintain product flyers for marketing department trade show
• Responsible to review and amend any updates or improvements needed to the pattern and design in collaboration with the importer
• Create and maintain label artwork and print for special orders.
• Sourcing materials from multiple suppliers both in Canada and overseas.
• Create and maintain costing sheet to help sales team create invoice.
• Create ghost photos and work closely with website developer to maintain Companies website and understand html through GreenGeeks portal.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Experience, Education and Designations:
• University Degree/College Diploma in Fashion Arts.
• Minimum 1 year of clothing design work experience
• Portfolio demonstrating previous clothing design experience is required
• Strength in pattern making in outerwear and design mandatory.
• English speaking
Knowledge, Skills and Attributes:
• Must have a solid understanding of fabrics, garment construction and fit, including the ability to fit on live models and translate to flat pattern.
• Strong ability to work from scratch, from first prototype sample through to bulk production.
• PAD system, NAC pattern system and Gerber Accumark experience
• Ability to use different version of OFFICE software, Self-motivated, reliable and hard working.
• Confidently work with Adobe Illustrator, Core Draw, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign to create flat sketches and brochures
• Strong understanding to use Nice Label software to create garment label with CAB Squix printer
• Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills to be able to communicate garment fit and construction techniques to both internal staff as well as outside factories.
• Strong understanding of both male and female body shapes is a must.
• Must understand and have knowledge of all common use fabrics and trims and ability to create Purchase Orders to the supplier
• Able to work in a fast-paced environment while meeting the demands of many different departments (Production, Product Development, Cutting, Quality Assurance).
• Ability to work with sample maker to build up samples in extremely tight deadlines.
• Equipped to create measurement chart with existing sample or pattern.
• Capable of creating and maintain fully detailed tech packs and cutting sheets
• Ability to grade patterns into the size chart customer provide.
• Strong ability to capture the quality issues in the production, able to create QC reports.
• fittings to the satisfaction of customers.
• Able to prepare specimens to lab testing service provide to finish specific tests.
• Experience work with UL engineer to get annual certification of NFPA 1999 and NFPA 1975 is an asset.
• Ability to work and communicate with the overseas agent to ensure they correctly understand the construction and finished details of the garment. Review with them see if any updates or improvements to the pattern and design.
• Able to source materials from multiple suppliers both in Canada and overseas.
• Ability to correctly cost out product and provide operation breakdown.
• Strong ability to create extremely detailed writing specification of our product.
• Ability to capture all the details in the bid documents to ensure the sample made is compliant.
• Create, maintain and update information on the website in collaboration with Green Geek
