CAF Wage Subsidy Program Expands to B.C.

The Canadian Apparel Federation has received funding to expand our Wage Subsidy Program to British Columbia.

This is a 15-week program that became effective Nov. 27, 2018.

We are attempting to identify employers recruiting new employees for permanent positions in their organizations as soon as possible. We are able to provide support until the end of March 2019, so if your company is currently hiring please contact us as soon as possible to apply.

This program offers subsidies to B.C. employers in Vancouver and the lower mainland in the apparel and textile sectors against the salary of a new hire. The purpose of the program is to provide work experience to qualified young people entering the industry’s workforce. Priority will be given to CAF members.

The subsidy is calculated as follows: $12.50 per hour, 35 hours per week for up to 15 weeks.  The sooner you apply the better - these subsidies must be used by the end of March 2019. These subsidies are available to new employees – 15 to 30 years of age inclusive.

The program is easy to apply for; employers complete their normal recruitment process to select the best candidate. More details are included in the program backgrounder.

This program has been very popular in Ontario where CAF has successfully placed more than 70 new hires with full-time positions in the industry. More than 40 employers in Ontario have participated in the program to date, and we have been working for some time to expand the program to other provinces.

Interested employers, please contact our wage subsidy program coordinator Janice Larsen as soon as possible at to find out how to apply.
