The Canadian Apparel Federation and SGS North America are holding a full day workshop dealing with regulatory compliance and product testing for apparel and soft goods. If your staff needs to understand the regulatory requirements in multiple countries and understand product testing, this workshop is for you.

The workshop will include the following topics:

Compliance 

Regulations in different jurisdictions along with multiple product standards and related product testing can be hard to manage, especially for companies with multiple products. This workshop will help remove the guesswork and help improve the level of knowledge and effectiveness of your quality control staff.

  • Regulations in North America and other key markets - including Fiber Content, Country of Origin, Care Labelling, Flammability and  Chemical restrictions
  • Recent changes in regulations - i.e. Upholstered and Stuffed Articles.
  • A high-level overview of product compliance requirements in China
  • Incorrect and correct labels, cautions and identification of frequent mistakes.
  • Status of various labeling proposals for additional labeling requirements
  • Changes in Canadian regulations re. antimicrobials

Testing and Quality Control

The afternoon session will allow attendees to review sample test reports, interpret the test results and understand how to accept, reject or re-work garments. It will cover:

  • Physical and Performance / Special Claim Tests: Including Strength, Pilling, Colourfastness, Quick Drying, Breathability, Water/Wind Proof, Water/Wind Resistance
  • Why tests are done, how they are done and how you should interpret the results.
  • Examples of test results (along with explanations of how to interpret them)
  • Global chemical management initiatives/sustainability

The workshop will have a non-technical orientation but detailed information will be presented.
