The Canadian Apparel Federation (CAF) and Ernst & Young LLP (EY) are holding a breakfast meeting and seminar in Montreal on customs issues relevant to apparel and footwear importers.
The session will address issues highlighted by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) in their Trade Compliance Verifications publication. Their most recent report on verification activities identified over $60 million recovered from Canadian apparel importers following CBSA verification audits.
The high duty rates paid by apparel, textile products, and footwear importers attract significant compliance actions by CBSA. Importers need to know the key issues and enforcement strategies of CBSA, and understand how to manage compliance risks.
The workshop will address CBSA trade verification priorities and actions, with an emphasis on valuation, and explain in detail key provisions enforced by CBSA, identify best practices and help firms mitigate compliance risks.
