Job Description / Duties

Role: Senior Category Manager (NOC 0911)
Salary: $150,000 – $200,000/year and Benefits (Extended Health, Dental, Vision, Disability, Life Insurance) + may be eligible for bonuses and salary increases, if applicable
Position: 45 hours/week, Full-time, Permanent
Location of work: Aritzia Support Office (#118-611 Alexander St. Vancouver, BC, V6A 1E1)
Number of positions: 1

The Senior Category Manager reports to the Sr. Department Manager of Production and works closely with other Product Division personnel, including Creative Development, Planning, Buying, Inventory Control, Design, Merchandising, Technical, Quality Assurance and Production.

The Senior Category Manager assists in managing and developing a balanced portfolio of supply chain partners who can deliver on Aritzia’s business objectives. The Senior Category Manager also applies proven communication, creativity, industry knowledge, business acumen and leaderships skills to enhance the goals of the department.

Key responsibilities of the Senior Category Manager will include the following:

1.0 DEPARTMENT MANAGEMENT
• Business Management
• Approving payment LC's, debit notes and advance requests
• Ensuring all categories within the area of responsibility work as per agreed strategy and area
KPIs
• Reviewing all Line Plans and Scorecards with Category Managers before all major
Checkpoints and escalating any call outs
• Managing the liability cut process
• Ongoing and continuous assessment of current vendors
• Partnering with Sourcing to onboard new vendor partners and communicating vendor needs
based on product needs defined by Design
• Owning the Production Scorecard - showing Allocation, IMU, Vendor, and Country roll-up for
each check point
• Complete oversight of the special add-in and short lead time high priority styles

• People Management
• Helping to recruit, train, motivate and evaluate team
• Ensuring work load distribution on the team is balanced and providing support when and
where help is needed
• Leading by example using the How We Work and How We Lead principles across the
department

2.0 MANUFACTURING ALLOCATION
• Approving the WHAT/WHEN/HOW MUCH of seasonal allocation plans and adjusting where necessary
• Reviewing vendor forecasts, capacity planning and filling or releasing vendor capacity as needed
• Aligning vendor capacities to the reorder needs of the area , ensuring optimum capacity is available at all times

3.0 PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT
• Responsible for delivering a better WHAT/WHEN/HOW MUCH for their category through the development process and communicating opportunities or risks cross-functionally on quality, delivery and cost
• Understanding and supporting Design's intent and providing viable options to support it in manufacturing
• Ensuring category deliverables are met throughout the product calendar process

4.0 TIME AND ALLOCATION MANAGEMENT
• Approving fabric time and action calendar for the category based on the right WHEN for the product
• Accountable for reorder strategy for key fabric groups

5.0 COSTING
• Maximizing the HOW MUCH based on consolidation, vendor negotiation, volume and any macroeconomic information
• Partnering with Sourcing, Fabric Management, and Buying to maximize cost opportunities across all levers
• Negotiating outlier style costs to meet target IMU

6.0 PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT
• Identifying and managing plans for any execution risks against the WHAT/WHEN/HOW MUCH
• Partnering with cross-functional teams in identifying opportunities to execute on liabilities in-season
• Partnering with Sourcing to manage liabilities at mills and vendors
• Partnering with Sourcing to ensure any vendor performance feedback is incorporated into overall vendor scorecards

Additional duties and responsibilities may be added or modified as required throughout the course of your employment.

Qualifications / Required Skills

The Senior Category Manager will possess the following qualifications:

• University degree or diploma in Business Administration or a related program
• 6 years’ experience in global apparel manufacturing, sourcing, and production experience with a fashion apparel retailer
• Minimum of 5 years’ managerial experience overseeing and supervising a team of 5 or more
• Experience with managing product throughout its lifecycle; from concept to production to final product
• Experience with cost negotiations with domestic and international vendors/manufacturers
• Proven leadership abilities and excellent interpersonal and communication skills – both verbal and written
• Knowledge of and experience with garment manufacturing/production methods
• Strong management skills and proven ability to lead and work effectively with cross functional/departmental partners and teams (i.e., Design, Merchandising, and Quality Assurance teams)
• Excellent organizational, planning and time management skills with ability to prioritize and manage deadlines
• Understands the fashion industry and has knowledge of main players in the industry
• Possesses knowledge of industry competitors and their product/service offerings
• Understands our market positioning compared to others in the industry
• Maintains a network of industry key players, suppliers and influencers
• Ability and willingness to travel internationally
